Ananias lying to Peter. WHAT REALLY HAPPENED!

Okay for most church goers , the fear of God is put into many people when you read this story. Its about this guy

Ananias who sells his property and gives only part of the money to Peter …and supposedly is struck dead by God himself for lying to Peter. Now to be short quick and to the point I just want to point out that it doesn’t say that GOD KILLED ANANIAS. We assume this is what happened.  During this time people believed that Christ would return in their lifetime so they were all instructed (BY PETER) to sell all their worldly goods and follow Peter as they prepared for the end of days. All their money was given to Peter and he would manage thus his small tribe of followers. (I’m sure this is reason why Peter was latered arrested by the Romans and killed because …well he probably wasn’t paying taxes. I doubt if they cared that he was a professed Christian as we are led to believe but THATS MY OPINION)  Now granted. PETER is banking at this moment.

CHARACTER BREAKDOWN OF APOSTLE PETER:

  • Loyal to Jesus in his face and denies him later to save his on hyde
  • known primarily to be quick tempered and violent
  • Predisposed with questions about “being the greatest in heaven” and not caring too much on other spiritual principles
  • Generally was not concerned with preaching any gospel to anyone who wasn’t jewish.
  • His followers actually wrote the gospels from Peter’s teaching of what HE SAID …that Jesus said. (hearsay twice removed)
  • It is believed he did not get along with the ministry of Apostle Paul

With that said. It’s just my two cents…and PERSONAL OPINION that Peter realized that (like most megachurch preachers do) that he could give “hope” to an opressed people and require their devotion through monetary means. However, since tithing had not yet been invented yet Peter require his followers give him all their money. Ananias, not being a fool, decides to follow yet, save some JUST IN CASE. How, Peter finds out …who knows, but somehow he does.  When he does, he calls Ananias into his office and I believe Peter KILLS ANNIAS HIMSELF and THEN TELLS his FOLLOWERS THAT GOD DID IT to

  1. make sure that it didn’t happen again.
  2. put a fear into his followers that an ever present force was watching them and ready to kill them if they were disobedient.
  3. To ensure his income and complete devotion.

This act of God is totally adverse to how God is described by Jesus, yet now Peter’s God is just as violent and quick tempered as he? hmmm. Wouldn’t hold water in a court of law let’s be realistic people. Notice no one was there to witness this event.

here’s the scriptures my commentary will be in red:

Acts 5

Ananias and Sapphira

1 Now a man named Ananias, together with his wife Sapphira, also sold a piece of property Peter had told them to do this in order to get ready for the last days and the return of Jesus …which never happened. 2 With his wife’s full knowledge he kept back part of the money for himself, but brought the rest and put it at the apostles’ feet. What was Peter doing with ALL THIS MONEY?

3 Then Peter said, “Ananias, how is it that Satan has so filled your heart that you have lied to the Holy Spirit and have kept for yourself some of the money you received for the land? 4 Didn’t it belong to you before it was sold? And after it was sold, wasn’t the money at your disposal? What made you think of doing such a thing? You have not lied just to human beings but to God.” Sounds like some Godfather type talk to me

5 When Ananias heard this, he fell down and died.Never said God did it…he just fell down. How? Did Peter hit him? choke him? And great fear seized all who heard they only HEARD what had happened. 6 Then some young men came forward, wrapped up his body, and carried him out NOTICE they came and  carried him OUT so Annias was somewhere INSIDE ALONE with Peter, and buried him.

7 About three hours later his wife came in, not knowing what had happened. 8 Peter asked her, “Tell me, is this the price you and Ananias got for the land?” Peter playing that Godfather role again

“Yes,” she said, “that is the price.”

9 Peter said to her, “How could you conspire to test the Spirit of the Lord? Listen! The feet of the men who buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out also.”

10 At that moment she fell down at his feet and died.No wtinesses, only Peter’s claim that she fell down dead. Then the young men came in Once again they come in not seeing anything and, finding her dead, carried her out and buried her beside her husband. 11 Great fear I thought God hasn’t given us a spirit of fear but of love and a sound mind? hmm seized the whole church and all who heard which means hearsay no one saw it about these events.

So there you have it folks.  Peter finds out his money is funny, kills the ones who short him, says its an act of God and the sheeple follow blindly. My two cents. Peter creates a church of people and controls them through fear. How else would he? That’s a lot of people, and a whole lot of money. If it happened today, we would liken that to a ……….i dunno, a cult? But I guess it’s okay because it’s in the Bible. (just like slavery and misogyny) We later find out that  Peter is later caught and crucified upside down (symbolism folks) *but this isn’t in the bible* supposedly FOR CHRIST….yeah, along with David Koresh and the rest of his followers.

  1. Verse 11: “And great fear came upon all the church, and upon as many as heard these things.” This is an accurate description and typical of what goes on every day in the mind of church folk. People might think I’m being selective if I mention Crefflo Dolla, and all the other “money pastors”, but this is what the Black church does. It’s the essence of it; it’s what makes its business so successful. It’s why it’s so hard to dispute the idea of gods with Black folk. We love the idea of a god and need that hope and prosperity that it’s said to give us so much so…that we dissonance the facts and reality of what it ‘really’ says and will pay all our money just to get that inspiration. It’s like a drug…an addiction. Some people need it some don’t…some are stronger than others. Regina Snell commented on my “Atheist Helping the Homeless” Video below saying “Christians come to me and tell me that my problems would be fixed if I went to church or read the bible more”. See there? It speaks to the point where you said, “Peter realized that (like most mega church preachers do) that he could give ‘hope’ to an oppressed people and require their devotion through monetary means. However, Peter requires his followers give him all their money. Ananias, not being a fool, decides to follow yet, save some JUST IN CASE.”…except there in no just in case. I was listing to the Michael Basdin show where the question was “Will Christian women do ‘anything’ to take care of their children?” …in other words as in the video below, sacrifice your values for reality? A lady said she was a devoted Christian and had tried everything (we don’t know her life story so let’s assume that maybe she did). BUT…she resorted to stripping. Said that she made a more than decent salary and if her Church would help her get HALF of what she makes…she’d stop. Maybe the church didn’t have enough…I don’t know the reason but I think they defiantly should have intervened if they truly cared about her soul. OH! And of course she was outted by the Church. But look…all that may be beside the point. Point is…again, it’s accurate of what we see. Look at T.D. Jakes for example. Great message, very inspirational. …but he’s not saying anything different that you or I would say to one another if we needed some encouragement. Only difference here is that ‘god’ is attached to the message and had told him to say it. He’s got a mega church with millions of followers and is BANKING. Peter=T.D. Jakes. We gotta stop fooling ourselves thinking that Christianity only one way to experience/deal with life….the ‘god’ way, and anything else is of ‘evil’. That’s not true. Are we living in 2011 or in the book of Acts? Good blog tho. Read your Valentine blog a while back too…it was ‘interesting’ too.
